Obviously we all like makeup, but not all of us know that wheat and gluten are in a TON of our every day makeup. You have to take into account that when you are a Celiac your skin is hyper sensitive to anything and everything, so you have to be extra careful with your face. But the question is can we sensitive-faced gals make those CVS makeup runs with our girlfriends?
Well I decided to do some research on brands and products of makeup. I narrowed my trial run down to: Physicians Formula, Covergirl, and Maybelline. The exact products I choose to test were: Cover Girl Clean Oil Control Powder, Maybeline Great Lash (BIG) Washable Mascara, Physicians Formula Bronzing & Shimmery Face Powder Summer Eclipse, and Physicians Formula Gentle Cover Concealer Stick.
What I learned is that sometimes CVS makeup just makes my face itch, not only because of Celiac disease but because I have sensitive skin. The products I do recommend are Maybeline Great Lash (BIG) Washable Mascara and Eyeliner, and Physicians Formula Bronzing and Shimmery Face Powder Summer Eclipse. Unfortunately with certain things like foundation and concealer you have to put money into those good products. The best brand names I found for foundation is Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15, and BareMinerals.
Okay maybe we Celiacs can’t use all of those brands they carry at CVS, but USE it to your ADVANTAGE and buy the good stuff. This is one time you’ll learn to use Celiac disease in your favor! Bottom line – don’t be embarrassed about it. Embrace it! You get to have all those nice makeup brands that a lot of other people don’t have. Have fun with it, but just remember everyone is different. Also before you buy the makeup; always put a little on your face, wait 20minutes, do your other shopping, and see how your skin reacts.
